BMAG first floor temporary exhibition gallery until 28 June The Neon Hieroglyph is a 57-minute video installation by artist Tai Shani. In the 1950s islanders on Alicudi, one of the Aeolian islands off Sicily, were haunted by sorceresses who flew to the mainland to steal food. Shani presents her fictional interpretation of this story, where tales of witchcraft and female transgression unfold in nine monologues performed by actor Molly Moody. Tai Shani is a Turner award-winning artist who premiered The Neon Hieroglyph at Manchester International Festival in 2021. The Friends helped to fund the acquisition of this video installation.
